For this international competition, the participating studios had to present a PC game for one of Universal’s film brands such as «Back to the Future», «The Great White Shark» or «Battlestar Galactica». Matthias Sala, CEO of wining Swiss studio Gbanga, and his team chose «Voltron: Legendary Defender», an animated series that has been around since 1984, about intergalactic super robots, heroes and villains, and whose latest episodes are currently shown on Netflix.
The result, «Voltron: Cubes of Olkarion», is based on the ZHdK work «Tower Defense» by Robin Bornschein, and challenges the player to build towers to destroy the opponent’s home base, using strategies and tricks to outsmart their rivals.

On October 23rd, the Gbanga team accepted the 150,000 US dollars in prize money during a ceremony in Los Angeles, thanking “the entire Swiss video game industry, which is small, but which shows an incredible team spirit and solidarity”. It is a well-deserved recognition after a few months where the entire Gbanga team worked on the project. There are currently discussions to finish developing the game.
