«Letters» – a written adventure through an enchanting world

After a nomination for an Emerging Talent Award in 2018 at Ludicious Zurich Game Festival, 5am Games were just distinguished by a GDC Best In Play Honorable Mention for their game «Letters – a written adventure». The game is also nominated at the 2019 Game Connection Development Awards in the category best casual game.

The Zurich-based studio is taking part to the SwissGames 2019 delegation to San Francisco and will be present at the GDC SwissGames pavilion, Game Connection America and  European Game Showcase.

«Letters – a written adventure» is a single player puzzle adventure about a correspondence between two pen pals. The story begins in 1998 as Sarah, an eleven-year-old girl from Switzerland, writes the first letter to Katya, in Russia. The player takes on Sarah’s role moving through letters and messages. The game world is inhabited by Sarah’s drawings in the letters and images on her computer screen that block the way: to get past them, the player can pick up words from the text and throw them at these characters who will change accordingly and hopefully, make way. This word-based mechanic gives a new and fun approach to text, while immersing players in enchanting and nostalgic visuals.
